22nd July 2021

The Society of Legal Scholars is delighted to announce the shortlist for the Peter Birks Prizes for Outstanding Legal Scholarship.  Each year the Society offers two prizes for outstanding published books by scholars in their early careers. The 2021 winners will be chosen from the shortlist below:

The Anatomy of Administrative Law, Dr Joanna Bell (Hart Publishing)
Reconceptualising Corporate Compliance: Responsibility, Freedom and the Law, Dr Anna Donovan (Hart Publishing)
Human Rights Imperialists: The Extraterritorial Application of the European Convention on Human Rights, Dr Conall Mallory (Hart Publishing)
Capitalism before Corporations: The Morality of Business Associations and the Roots of Commercial Equity and Law, Dr Andreas Televantos (Oxford University Press)
Respect and Criminal Justice, Dr Gabrielle Watson (Oxford University Press)

Congratulations to those who have been shortlisted.  Competition was, once again, intense with impressive scholarship represented throughout.  The judges were privileged to have the opportunity to read these and the other entries.  The winners of the prizes will be announced at the Annual Conference Dinner on Wednesday 1st September during the hybrid Annual Conference hosted by Durham University.
