Symposium – 29-30 June 2015: ‘Corporate Lawyers and Corporate Clients’,

This two day symposium will explore various aspects of large law firm practice: the relationships between corporate lawyers and their clients; lawyer independence and the rule of law; legal professional privilege; law firms, businesses and human rights; legal risk; the changing role of General Counsel; bribery and corruption; lawyers’ duties etc.

Organised by Dr Steven Vaughan of Birmingham Law School, the conference is free and is generously funded by the Economic and Social Research Council’s ‘Future Research Leaders’ scheme. Registration will open in late February 2015.

Paul Philip (Chief Executive, Solicitors Regulation Authority) will open the conference. Our keynote address on the Monday evening will be by Richard Moorhead, Professor of Law and Ethics at University College London. Confirmed speakers include Professor Celia Wells OBE (University of Bristol), Professor John Flood (University College Dublin), Professor Joan Loughrey (University of Leeds), Barry Matthews (Director of Legal Affairs, ITV plc), Paul Gilbert (Chief Executive, LBC Wise Counsel), Crispin Passmore (Executive Director (Policy), SRA), Dr Louise Ashley (University of London), Professor Robert Lee (University of Birmingham) and Professor Hilary Sommerlad (University of Birmingham)
